Call to Order/Roll Call: President Toni Davison called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. at the Northwest Maritime Center.
Board members present: Don Berger, Jim Buckley, John Collins, Nancy Erreca, Karen Michaud
Board members absent: Steve Jefferies, Michele Olsen, Cara Warren
Also present: Patricia Farmer, Mari Friend, Sally Giesler, Jim Mason, Marsha Wiener
Approval of Agenda: John moved to approve the agenda. Don seconded. Motion passed.
Approval of March Minutes: Karen moved to approve. Jim B. seconded. Motion passed.
Treasurer’s Report: John reported that we have $14,870 in member dues compared to last year when we had $12,380. We have $558 in the scholarship and had two applications for partial scholarships. One was for a membership and one for a LTR class. Both were approved.
Revised Safety Policy: The committee of Roger McPherson, Patricia Farmer and Janet Palmer updated the policy. After much discussion Jim B. moved to table the discussion. John seconded. Motion passed. Board members will send their policy comments and revision suggestions to the committee.
Request for Lights on the Wherry: A couple of members asked if we could put lights on the wherry so they could row early in the morning. The board decided to not change our policy which does not allow us to row in dark conditions.
Sigh-up Sheets 2016 Rowing Season: Mari sent out a two week sheet for the end of April with open rows on all days. The Tuesday and Thursday competition rows will start May 1st as will Friday sweep rows and afternoon rows. Once it is light enough in the morning the 5:45 am rows will start. All morning rows will be at 7:00. Toni will send out an email with instructions on how to join the Tuesday and Thursday rows. The afternoon rows will cancel by noon if there are not four signed up. The launch driver is responsible for cancellation notification.
Dues Concerns: We have had people ask about family rates and student rates. The board decided that the rates are the same for all individuals in the regular membership class. We have four other classes of memberships: Associate membership is for anyone who wants to support the club but does not want to row in club boats, Student is for college students returning for a few weeks in the summer, Introductory allows one free month after LTR class and Junior is for under 18 members. John will present language at the next meeting to update the definition of the Junior class.
New Triple: Jim Mason would like the triple he acquired to become a club boat. There are issues with storage space and associated costs plus repair costs. Jim M. will present costs and options at the next meeting. Jim B. suggested we ask club members if anyone wanted it as a private boat.
Who Answers Club Emails: We have been getting lots of emails asking about classes, guest rowing, membership, etc. It was decided that if an email asks about LTR classes the LTR committee should respond. Membership questions should be answered by Cara. Whoever answers should cc Toni so she knows we have responded. If she doesn’t think we have responded she will assign someone to answer.
Float Test Records Incomplete: Because we do not have everyone’s float test a waiver was created that can be signed by someone who has taken the test but does not have a copy. They can also retake the test at the pool. John moved to accept this waiver as an affidavit of float completion. Karen seconded. Motion passed.
What To Do with Club PFDs: All of the inflatable PFDs need to be rechecked if they are to be used. John moved to instead offer these to club members for $10. Purchasers would be responsible for making sure they worked. Nancy seconded. Motion passed.
New Members Not Coming thru LTR: Toni proposed policy and procedures for this group as we have no current policy. Much discussion ensued and it was felt that a new policy was not needed and we will continue to handle things on a case by case basis.
Guest Rowers: A revised policy and new procedures were proposed by Toni but the Board opted to stay with the current policy. There was discussion of possibly having ambassadors or row masters or coxes help with getting waivers signed but ultimately no changes were recommended. John suggested we be open and support the rowing community and all rowers should be welcome to join us.
